The St. Charles All-Stars 14U team won the Gator Get Down tournament in Walker by going 5-0 and winning the championship game 12-0. St. Rose Elementary School third grade students participated in an art contest held by Child Advocacy Services' local CASA program. On June 10, Willowdale Country Club defeated Metairie Country Club, 486 to 468 at the club in Luling. The results are as follows. The Louisiana Hurricanes 10U girls softball team recently won a USFA state-qualifying tournament on the Southeastern Louisiana University campus in Hammond by going 7-0 and winning the championship game 2-0. The most popular summer-blooming tree in Louisiana is the crape myrtle with its lovely, long-lasting flowers. Crape myrtles start blooming between mid-May and early June and continue flowering for 80 to 100 days depending on the variety. Barry Sr. and Rosemary Songy of Houma annonce the engagement of their daughter Laura Adele Songy to Jay Ryan Meyer, son of Alvin Jr. and Christine Meyer of Des Allemands. A Willowdale resident threatened to sue the parish over the lack of a 3-way stop sign at Willowdale Boulevard and East Heather, leading Councilman Shelley Tastet to have signs installed temporarily. MaryAnn Placker of Montz has been battling hypertension for years, so it’s important that she takes her medication correctly and monitors her blood pressure regularly - something the Council On Aging helps her do. “Wonder What’s Out There” by Ann Allman got the most votes last week and is the May 28 weekly winner in the St. Charles Herald-Guide’s Camera Shootout 2009 photo contest. Congratulations to Ann.
A seasonal rise in the Mississippi River forced the Spillway Road in the Bonnet Carre Spillway to close on May 13, and the parish has no set date on when the road will be reopened. Nine LSU AgCenter educators recently won top honors for their home-buyer education program at the Louisiana Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences annual meeting. These days, the morning chitchatter surrounding cups of coffee in Des Allemands focuses on the idea that there is a Civil War train buried beneath the floor of Bayou Des Allemands. The 11-man St. Charles Parish Race Club just wrapped up the second of five racing events for the Louisiana R/C Challenge 2009. NORCO - St. Charles Parish honored 71 employees for their attendance and service during the 27th annual Civil Service Awards breakfast held at La Maison Magnolia reception hall. The St. Charles Women’s Club recently held its annual disbursements and installation reception at the St. Charles Parish Schools Satellite Center in Luling. The non-profit civic and social organization in existence since 1966 raises money each year to distribute back into the community of St. Charles Parish. Holding to its motto, “Making a Difference,” the club was able to give over $20,000 this year.

After a number of requests to the state have failed to elicit much response, Council President Terry Authement wants to initiate a task force to draw attention to the many problems motorists encounter while driving on U.S. 90.
